Why doing business responsibly makes good sense for everyone

Paul Bates

Cleankill as a company only has two assets – its staff and its customers, without these there is no business. Our responsibility is to train, encourage and support our staff in their work and in their welfare, so that they will in turn carry out their work to the best of their abilities and promote the image of Cleankill as the best provider of pest control services to their clients. This will give our customers the confidence to continue to use Cleankill and to recognise us as their preferred suppliers and, in turn, supply us with referrals and testimonials that will ensure continued growth.

Our field staff are paid on average 10% above the UK national industry average. All staff receive a pension, private healthcare for themselves and all dependants up to the age of 24, and a death in service benefit of four times annual salary. We are the only pest control company in the UK to have gone beyond the base Investor in People standard, having achieved the Silver Level two years ago.

In addition all staff, from the newest member of office staff up to the directors, are encouraged to take part in community and charitable events and will be supported by the company. Such events have included office staff jumping from aeroplanes to raise money for Tadworth Court Children’s Trust and St Mungo’s homeless care, service technicians giving their time to paint the parents dining areas of Tadworth Court, through to the directors supporting local scouting, talks being given to local schools and Cleankill as a company supporting children’s development at local sports centres. In 2012 some of our staff acted as volunteer gamesmakers at both the main and the Paralympic games.

All staff are fully trained to RSPH level 2 in pest control as a minimum standard – in addition Cleankill have one of only three UK pest control staff trained to level 3. All staff are on the BASIS PROMPT ongoing learning points scheme. Office staff also have ongoing training in Sage, Excel and telephone communication, as well as spending field time with both service and sales staff. Staff are also given incentives, including fun away days, and also full company team building days.

Our continued growth has now formed career paths for our staff – technicians are now able to progress into either our new supervisory service roles or into sales.

We carry out regular training for our customers – in particular facility and property managers – both at their offices and also by holding seminars on pest control in the 21st century - this also assists our clients in their own ongoing learning processes.

The Cleankill Mission is to be a leading member of the pest control industry, with an emphasis on fast and efficient service delivery, and we aim to be recognised as the market leader for innovation and new techniques, embracing modern environmental issues with an integrated range of strategies.

To achieve this mission we:

Will continue to ensure that our staff are the most highly trained in the industry

Ensure that our staff enjoy working for Cleankill

Ensure that our customers and their needs are at the heart of our business strategy

Ensure that we invest into our communities as a responsible business, both in terms of our time and charitable giving, and also in our ethical and green credentials, ensuring that as a pest control company our minimal use of pesticides and our investment in newer techniques means that our effect on the environment is minimised.

We believe that our future profit and growth will come as a result of these values.
