Birds of a feather...

Those of you who follow us on social media will know that over the last few weeks we have had quite a few encounters with birds.

In the first case, I was called to a disused garage by a couple of concerned neighbours - they were complaining about a damp problem on a connecting internal wall. When I entered the property I was met by around 30 pigeons. They had been using a broken window to gain entry to the building and had found it the ideal place to breed and, of course, this results in plenty of unhygienic mess.

Time to make sure you are protected from the menace of pigeons

With Spring seemly getting earlier and earlier, now is the time to make sure your property is protected from nesting pigeons and other flying pests.

As the days get warmer, birds will start to look for places to settle – outside ledges and exposed pipework. Their droppings will then collect on the floor below, causing an unsightly and dangerously slippery mess.

Get your netting checked now before nesting season starts

As Spring approaches, facilities and property managers are being urged to make sure bird control methods are in place before pest birds settle in for the peak nesting periods of Spring and Summer.

In April and May, pigeons and gulls will start taking advantage of the warmer weather to sit on outside ledges and pipe work. Their droppings then fall to the floor below, creating a dangerously slippery surface. There are many techniques available including installing nets, sprung wire systems and bird spike repellents.
